ARK OR ALI SHAH MOSQUE

The premises is one of the oldest and most notable ancient building of the city, and a masterpiece of the Islamic architecture. also situated on Imam Khomeini Avenue, it was build during the time of Tajeddin Ali Sah Jilani, minister of sultan Abou Saeed of the Ilkhanid dynasty (1256 - 1353). It was erected in 956 and was completed eight years later by Jilani's successors. it was used as ammunition depot during the Qajar period and the constitutional revolution and, therefore, it is also called Ark (citadel). The mosque is surrounded by three high brick walls. Mass Friday prayers are held in this mosque, which is called Imam Khomeini mosalla.
